Review – Procoal Charcoal Exfoliating Scrub*

Hello my lovelies,

If you have been reading my blog for a little while you will know that I try to emphasise the importance of taking care of your skin. A good skincare routine is a must when you are a beauty lover like me and to be honest I love everything about skincare. There is nothing better than completing your skincare morning or evening to find glowy,  soft skin and you confidence just escalates. As I have textured skin I love to use a exfoliator a couple of times a week just to remove all the dead skin and rubbish from my face.

I have a few favourite exfoliating scrubs which I repetitively buy and to be honest I don’t normally deviate from them. Every so often I try new ones just to ensure I’m using what I think is best for my skin. In walks the Procoal Charcoal Exfoliating Scrub, which does on the surface seem pretty impressive.

This product has been developed in the UK which contains active constituents to help remove impurities, oxidised sebum and contaminants. So basically everything that is wrong with my skin this claims to combat I also love the idea of the activated charcoal within the product which is used to help clear deep-seated pores, remove pollutants and purify the complexion which is basically what I need!

Charcoal isn’t an ingredient I have in many of my skincare products but to be honest with the dull weather in the UK I needed to try something that would sort my skin out. The packaging is pretty standard and to be honest I actually prefer skincare products that have white packaging as it promotes cleanliness which ideally that’s what you want your skin to be pure and clean.

The product itself is a fairly thick product which is completely full of exfoliating beads, this really is a scrub so it isn’t for the faint hearted. Personally if you have sensitive skin then I would try a small area first as the scrub is pretty intense. When massaging into the skin it does tingle a little bit and you can really feel that it’s making your skin work to remove impurities and clear as much as possible.

Interestingly you can actually visibly see the charcoal within the formula which is slightly bigger than the other particles within the scrub although it doesn’t make much difference to the experience you have. This is such a different formula to one I have ever tried before with the texture being nearer a sugar scrub due to the thickness, which for me is not an issue but it is something to consider and I’m sure everyone has different preferences.

I remove this using warm water and a flannel which does the trick in seconds, there is no particles left behind which I can find with other scrubs. At first my skin is a little red which to be honest is fairly common with scrubs but once dried wow does my skin feel good. It’s so damn soft and my texture that I suffer with is visibly reduced. My skin always looks and feels clean and radiant which is exactly what you are after when it comes to a scrub.

I will say that although I use it as instructed I don’t feel as though my pores have reduced in size but they are a lot clearer – so if you are after this to magically reduce the look of your pores then for me, it isn’t that wonder product. Really though, this is the only criticism I have with this product because my skin seems to absolutely love it. I also love that not only is this targeted towards women but men also which actually is quite refreshing as this isn’t something that is promoted through other brands.

All the ingredients are free from parabens, SLS, mineral oil and paraffin which is also another benefit of this British brand. I’m really looking into the ingredients I am using at the moment and trying to stay away mainly from parabens and oils that will counteract with my skin so this is a massive plus for me.

Overall, I am so impressed with this product I love the results I have gotten from using this scrub and it’s not very often I am impressed by these sorts of products. This is available from Procoal here and it retails for £8.99 which is a fairly decent price for an exfoliator.

Let me know if you have used this product before and what your thoughts are on it. Also, let me know your favourite exfoliator!

  1. thanks for the post! Like you, I haven’t much been into charcoal products, but I will give one a try– not sure if I can find this one though. My sister likes charcoal a lot, maybe she can order it! Thanks again 🙂

      1. I am kind of thinking of trying some French Pharmacie Vichy, but their face creams with AHA have aluminum, and you know in the States we were taught that aluminum is bad for your skin so I don’t know about those, but will let you know if I pick some up — and if I can find some charcoal over here. I think they might have some #KBeauty Charcoal here in Vietnam.
