Top 10 Beauty Products of 2018

Hello my lovelies,

How in the world has 2018 come and gone? It’s true what they say the older you get the quicker the years go by. It’s been a crazy old year for me but I wouldn’t change it for the world. It was another year of exploring new beauty products and falling further in love with everything beauty. I probably spent way to much money on beauty products, but hey it’s only money. The products mentioned in this post are some new discoveries as well as some products that I have loved for years that I just can’t stop using – enjoy!

Garnier – Micellar Cleansing Water see here

So yes, I talk about this all the time here on my blog but honestly there is a reason why. Everyone I have recommended this to has also fell in love and do you know why? Because it works. I use this on a daily basis in the morning to refresh and remove anything that may of attacked my skin in the night. I instantly feel refreshed and is the perfect base before applying moisturiser.

Also after cleansing in the evening if there is any make-up left on my face, mainly mascara, this instantly is able to break it down and remove it. To be honest I don’t think there is much this little baby can’t do. I know they have different variations of this including an oil infused one and also one that helps those of you that has sensitive skin. I never find that I have any irritation especially when it comes to my eyes. I just can’t get enough of it, I always buy the 700ml bottle as it works out a little cheaper.

I won’t use any other miceller water because I haven’t found anything that is comparable on price or quality. This has really opened up my eyes to other Garnier skin products which I also have fallen in love with this year, this is a massive love affair and one that I don’t think will end anytime soon!

Nip + Fab – Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads see here

These little babies are a new find for me in the past year. I know they have been raved about for a long time but I just didn’t think that they were for me. Oh how I was wrong. I initially picked up some for my older sister who loves them and as they were a good deal I decided to pick myself some up. When I first tried them I thought – this tiny little pad how is this going to do anything. But it did, I mean it’s not instant results but I really do notice the difference after using this.

I use these as more of a toner, I find them a little harsh on my skin and I don’t use toner daily – skincare guru’s I’m sorry! I use these probably around 3 times a week and if I’m honest that’s enough for me. I notice such a difference in my skin when I don’t use these for a week or so. My skin instantly feels brighter and my uneven skin is more under control when I routinely use these. These really are little gems so if you are looking for a refresh and to help with your skin at the start of 2019 this may be something to look into.

Benefit – Hoola Bronzer see here

Another cult product in my make-up collection that won’t be leaving me anytime soon. Although it is branded as a bronzer this is my go to contour product. It is the perfect shade for me and it’s matte – what more could you want? I have tried many contour products in my time and nothing compares to this. I decided against showing you a picture of inside as well it’s not nice but I call it well loved. It just keeps giving as although I hit pan a long time ago it still has a lot of product left.

I use this every day, I just can’t use anything else. It is a little pricey and Benefit seem to keep putting up their prices, however it’s worth the investment. I find some contour products can become cakey and the pigmentation is just not right, however this sits on my face along with other products beautifully. It’s a love affair that will keep going for me because I just can’t find anything comparable.

MAC – Minralize Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle see here

So, yes this is a bit of an old school product but I’m still in love with it. It is my most used highlighter of all time so much so I have hit pan on my first ever highlighter. It is the most beautiful bronze glow to the cheek bones that is just to die for. If you haven’t tried this yet – where have you been because it really has been talked to death about in the beauty community. I assure you though, there is a reason why.

For me, I don’t see why this won’t suit most peoples skin tone. However, if you are pale and you aren’t into the most glittery of highlighters then this might not be for you. I love a highlight that really pops and catches the light and this is exactly what this little baby does. It’s extremely pigmented and a little goes a long way, the perfect investment in my eyes!

Tarte – Gifted Mascara see here

I think this is the find of the year because this is the best mascara I have ever used. I don’t care what others say but seriously if you haven’t tried it – you need to. This formula creates the most perfect lashes, full of volume with a balance of a flutter whilst holding a curl. Whether I use just one coat for every day where or a few for a night out I am always left impressed.

I never have issues in this becoming flaky or causing panda eyes especially on my bottom lashes. It’s a dream to use and what’s more it’s a blooming delight to remove. There aren’t many mascaras that can do all this let me tell you. I seriously can’t rave about this mascara enough I just wish it was more widely available in the UK because unless you place an order of £40 P&P can be a bit of a bugger. If I am honest all Tarte mascaras are pretty impressive and everyone I have recommended them to have fallen in love. If you are on the hunt for a new mascara, please consider this. I could write for days about this, but I won’t because I’m sure people would fall asleep!

Clinique – Take The Day Off Balm see here

2018 was the year for me where I really wanted to open my eyes to different skincare products on the market. I was stuck in a rut with cleansers and luckily I received this as a gift at the right time because I instantly fell in love. I was scared of using this at first due to my oily skin, if this sounds like you then listen to me – try it.

Balms aims to re-balance the oils within your skin by removing impurities as well as removing the obvious – make up. This is amazing at taking make up off, including mascara. I never have to second cleanse after using this because this little baby does the job and some. It’s a dream and my skin always thanks me after for using this because my oh my does my skin feel good. It’s so important to look after your skin and this little baby has greatly improved my skincare routine. 2019 is the year where I find new cleansing balms, any recommendations would be grateful!

Huda Beauty – Desert Dusk Palette see here

Oh what a joy it has been experimenting with this palette over the past year. Although it’s not my all time favourite palette, this has really opened up my eyes to what I can achieve. I’m not the most creative person in the world but the eye shadows within this palette are so blendable and easy to use it’s very difficult to make a mistake you can’t resolve. I didn’t think I’d get much use out of this but boy how I was wrong.

It is the most expensive palette I have brought, but in my eyes it’s worth it 100%. I have done a full review on this palette here so if you are on the fence about whether it is for you then it might be worth looking at. I don’t see myself stopping using this anytime soon and to be honest it’s stopped me buying any more palettes recently because I love this so much.

Benefit – Precisely, My Brow Pencil see here

I have loved this baby for a long time, it completely changed my brow game around 3 years ago. However, I had my make-up done in the summer and it completely changed the way I use eye brow products. I now use this all over my brows, creating a more natural brow where I can create the illusion of hairs where parts of my brows are sparse.

For me, this is my favourite brow product I have come into contact with and I’m forever grateful to Benefit for producing this wonderful product. You have to be careful with how you use this as if you are heavy handed they can look very drawn on and un-natural. However if that’s the outcome you like then you will like this also. I just can’t stop using this product and has been a complete life saver on bad brow days.

MAC – Fix + see here

Can you believe it took me god knows how many years to purchase this stuff!? I finally picked this up at IMATS this year. To be honest although people use it and it’s well loved in the beauty community but I didn’t think it would change much for me, but boy how I was wrong.

I didn’t realise how much of an effect this product had until I had an influx of people asked how in the world did my make up stay in place for so long and to be honest I’m still impressed. I use this religiously and if I’m honest I don’t think I will stop anytime soon. The spray is perfect and evenly applies onto the skin and doesn’t take more than a couple of seconds to sink into the skin. I totally recommend this for people who need to go long periods of time wearing make up because I promise you a couple of spritz of this and you are good to go for at least 10 hours. Miracle product!

Tarte – Rainforest of The Sea Aquacealer Concealer see here

I feel like I purchased this accidentally this year but it’s the best accidental purchase I have ever made. This little baby has a liquid consistency that come with a doe-foot applicator which to be honest is just made for your under eyes.  I tried this out not expecting much and my oh my I just can’t stop using it.

This works so well under the eyes and never creases, I think this is thanks to the thin consistency but it really does impress and it sits beautifully and is able to conceal my awful under-eye bags as well as creating the perfect light. You can really tell the difference if I choose to use a different under eye concealer – beats them every time! I haven’t heard much about this concealer so let me know if you have tried this before with the same wonderful effects.

Take a gold star if you managed it to the end – it was a little long. I just can’t rave enough about certain products. Who knows what products will impress me in the year ahead! Let me know if you have tried any of the products mentioned as well as your stand out products of 2018.

  1. Hi Alice! It’s such a shame that Tarte mascara isn’t available in the UK, I’m dying to try it! No panda eyes or flakiness, sounds like a dream product! I find it hard to justify £40 on cosmetics this year though so it’s gonna have to wait for me! I totally agree with you on the Clinique Take The Day Off Balm though, it’s one of those products I can never be without! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these lovely products! X

    1. Huda palettes are beautiful but pricey. I’m trying to not get sucked in anymore 🙈 I haven’t used Vichy before always been meaning to. Have you tried any other products from them you would recommend?

  2. I had seen the cleansing water in the shops but wasn’t sure if it would be worth the money or not. I’ll definitely be giving it a try now. I like the look of the Clinique Take the Day off blam too! I love Clinique products xxx
