Disappointing Products #2

Hello my lovelies,

So oddly enough I don’t write these posts very often which is actually rather nice. When I buy a product I try my hardest to make it work for me. Most of the time I find a way and sometimes I fall in love with the way I use it, other times I think it’s ok and I will use it until it’s finished. I’m just not a lover of wasting products. However, there are the rare occasions where I just can’t use them and I just think enough is enough I have to accept it’s not to my liking. We can’t love everything in the world and I thought I would share this with you. If you would like to see my last Disappointing Products see here

Topshop – Lipstick in Culture see here

So it’s not very often I find a lipstick I don’t like. I like a varied amount of lipsticks and I always find ways or occasions to make it work. Topshop Beauty is a brand I don’t venture into very often, I just hear such mixed reviews and to be honest I’m not 100% convinced. I gave this lipstick a chance when I found it in TK MAXX. I fell in love with the colour and I wanted to do my best to make it work.

However it just doesn’t work for me. I do prefer a matte lipstick but I don’t mind a more gloss finish if the product is good. Every time I use this I put a lip liner on underneath which I do for near enough all my lipsticks to ensure it lasts for as long a possible but even with a lip liner it just went so quickly. Don’t get me wrong the pigmentation is really impressive and I love the colour but it doesn’t stay on very long. It slips and slides all over the place and I have been embarrassed on a number of occasions with it being all round my face. I just can’t make it work, I’m sure people love this formula and if someone can give me tips of how I can stop this from moving everything it would be appreciated.

Ted Baker – Mascara in Black

I unfortunately can’t find a link for this but I received this in a Ted Baker beauty set at Christmas time. I was really looking forward to trying the products and I had high hopes. Some of the products like the blusher I have completely fallen in love with. However, I tried this mascara and it did nothing to my lashes. I applied countless coats of this and still nothing. I mean I’m not sure who would like this because it’s pretty pointless. The brush just doesn’t seem to pick up the product, I just can’t use it. I’m gutted because it looks so pretty and I love Ted Baker as a brand but looks really can be deceiving..

Rimmel London – Sculpting Palette see here

Now, this may come as a shock to some because I know a lot of people really enjoy using this product but I just think it’s pants. It’s a something of nothing product for me that doesn’t seem to give off barely any pigmentation. I don’t know whether I have a dud one but I have given up with this. It looks lovely and I had such high hopes for this and it has completely disappointed me. I have actually written a full review of this post here. Is there anyone else out there that has the same opinion as me surely I can’t be the only one?

Revolution – Liquid Lipstick in Glory see here

Another lip product I know, before I start I adore Revolution as a brand and think the quality is incredible for the price. However, I was well and truly disappointed with this one. I am a massive lover of liquid lipsticks and from Kylie Jenner’s Lip Kit other brands like Revolution jumped on board. I love the colour, I mean I’m a massive brown toned fan especially for winter time and I was really looking forward to rocking this. Yet, when I applied this I just knew it wasn’t for me. The product felt really sticky and really hard to move around the lips, it felt heavy and wasn’t very comfortable. I obviously persevered with this and let it dry which may I add took quite some time. It felt awful on the lips and every time I moved my mouth I could just feel it there.

It then just started to just crumble away and it look awful after a couple of hours on from application. The remains of this just stained my lips and was a complete bugger to get off. I mean how do I make this work? The formula for me was just way off and I refuse to use it any more. I’m a bit gutted because it’s the first product from Revolution that I just haven’t got on with.

Zoeva – Luxe Petit Crease Brush, 231

Now, I love Zoeva brushes. They are one of my most favourite brands for them and I have a lot of them in my collection. However, I just can’t seem to get on with this brush. I love the shape of it to get into the crease especially for the darker shades and it feels so soft but actually it just really hurts my eye. It’s just so harsh and I’m not that heavy handed but it doesn’t really apply my eyeshadow that great. It’s really annoying because the shape is just perfect, but I just can’t keep going through the pain. I have tried it countless times, using it for different things and every time I’m left with a red eye and disappointed. I think it’s time to say goodbye to this brush sadly.

Ted Baker – Eyelash Curler

Again, I’m sorry I can’t find a link for these. I know it’s another Ted Baker product, I’m sorry. Now I don’t use an eyelash curler every day mainly because I forget but I love the results it gives me. The whole point of an eyelash curler is to curl your lashes right? Well this just does absolutely nothing. I didn’t think you can go wrong with one of these but oh my I was wrong. I’m better off not going through the faff and just apply mascara. It’s annoying because it looks really pretty but it’s a no from me. Seriously what’s the point of it if it doesn’t curl your lashes?

Sleek – Full Fat Lash Mascara see here

So anything that claims to give me a lot of volume I’m all for. I actually got this in a set and I was really looking forward to trying this. I have never tried a sleek mascara before and most of the products I had used before from Sleek I enjoy. I really didn’t get on with this, I didn’t get much volume from this at all. In fact it coated my lashes and that was about it, didn’t lengthen – nothing. When I did wear it, it just flaked off throughout the day and created the lovely panda look. Seriously not about that life.

I just get frustrated when a mascara claims to be volumising and does near enough nothing I mean who tests this out? I don’t have oily lashes and I don’t have issues with other mascaras. Mascara’s can work on different people so I hope it’s not a complete write off but it just doesn’t work for me and I was left very disappointed.

That’s all folks, I’m glad I don’t do these posts very often but I think it’s worth letting you know the products that aren’t so great for me. Let me know if you have tried any of these products I have mentioned and how they have worked out for you.

  1. I’m surprised to see the Rimmel Sculpting palette on your list!! I love the contour and highlight from that palette. I don’t use the blush though. I find it hard to blend! Mine is super pigmented, maybe we have different shades. I think mine is called Coral. But products work differently for different people I guess. Loved this post xxx

  2. Is Ted Baker makeup a new thing recently or have they been around for quite some time?! Either way, I had no idea! (and no interest, because I don’t really trust it when brands venture out to a completely different area…)

It’s a shame that these products didn’t work for you and I know the feeling as I hate wasting products too!

    1. I don’t know. I only really see it at Christmas time with gift sets. I don’t think they have a firm line. Not sure if I would want to try anymore from them.
I know a little gutted but I think think I can’t like everything. Thank you for reading ✨
