REVIEW| Charlotte Tilbury – Full Fat Lashes Mascara

Hello my lovelies,

Mascara – for me is a very personal product. Everyone wants their lashes to look differently and there are so many mascaras about that it’s easy to choose the most popular and hope for the best. For me, I always try find out what the mascara is actually going to do for my lashes. For me I want a volumising mascara that can cause drama without being ridiculously clumpy. Now I think that’s pretty straight forward however I do find it hard to actually find a mascara I love.

I have gone through so many different mascaras in my time and only a handful I have ever repurchased, it’s crazy really but I really do struggle to find my perfect mascara. Maybe I am very picky but seriously how hard is it to find a decent mascara in the beauty world!? I decided to take the plunge and try out a Charlotte Tilbury mascara..

I must start with the packaging, because I really am a sucker for this but Charlotte just seems to pull me in every time. It really draws me in and looks like an expensive product, which of course it is. It’s very lightweight and is a very standard mascara tube. I just seem to stare at it all the time because the packaging is just so pretty..

Anyway enough of the packaging lets focus on the actual product because it’s all well an good looking pretty but it has a job to do! The colour I have for reference is Glossy Black. The wand for me is pretty standard and actually what I prefer, a bristle wand is right up my street as opposed to plastic brushes – I just never seem to get on with them. For me, the bristle brush stands more of a chance to actually coat all your lashes including those niggley lashes in the corner that are always a bugger to coat. This wand really is able to get into those nooks and crannies! I love it! It is super easy to apply and the wand never clogs up with mascara for your lashes to go all clump – it really is an even layer applied across your lashes.

The mascara leaves all my lashes evenly coated with a decent amount of blackness. It lengthens reasonably well and volume is pretty good. I do feel that 3 or 4 layers are required to get my desired look and for it to actually stand up to the name of ‘Full Fat Lashes’. For me, I need a mascara to do this in fewer layers not because I am lazy but I just simply don’t have the time to spend hours on my lashes.

I do find that this mascara holds the curl in my eyelashes pretty well – this is something I absolutely adore about this mascara. I do find most mascaras just don’t hold a curl and after a few hours my lashes look awful however this really does stand out from the crowd.

It also just lasts a really long time, I never find that it has rubbed onto the top of my eyes ruining a masterpiece that is my eyeshadow (normally it isn’t but seriously who wants a black smudgy line!?). However, when I apply this on my bottom lashes which is what I do on a daily basis it lags. It always ends up under my eyes and I look like I have either been punched in the eye or a panda – I’m not sure which is better?

Overall, this is an ok mascara. I enjoy using it but it is no where near perfect and I guess I was just expecting a little more because it was by Charlotte Tilbury, a slight disappointment I must say. If this was a drugstore mascara I’d probably be a little more pleased with it but at £23 I just was expecting that WOW factor. I will of course use it up but I really don’t think I’d repurchase it. It’s a shame because I adore all of my other Charlotte Tilbury products apart from this one..

Mascara does differ from person to person so please don’t be put off by my opinion it’s just what I found. Have you ever tried this mascara, what have been your thoughts? Are there any high-end mascaras that you would recommend?

  1. I agree, the packaging looks lovely! I haven’t actually tried it but from what you’ve said I think I’d expect a bit more from a mascara that expensive!!

  2. This is such a shame that it’s not as good as all the hype around it. I completely get what you mean with struggling to find the right kind of mascara though. I’ve been through so many brands over the years, it was only when I tried Lancome that I actually stopped looking. It’s incredible and I’d never turn back now!
